I am unable to verify through sms to use the burner app. I continue to get error messages that reference international settings. I am in the US, use an iPhone that is set to US for all location/data settings...

First, could you double check your device's international settings? Here's where you can find that: Settings > General > Language and Region > US
Once you've check that, could you please delete the app and reinstall it? This should force the system to refresh and send you a new 6 digit verification code which you'll use to complete the login process.
